Fees for international students
Course fees are calculated as if a student undertakes one year of full-time study. This is called 1 x EFTSL (Equivalent Full Time Study Load). If course duration is less than one year, or the student studies less than a full-time study load, fees are adjusted accordingly.
The indicative total course fee is based on typical subject enrolments and does not take into account any advanced standing for prior studies.
Fees are reviewed annually by the University and vary depending on subjects within the course.
If you are an international student, you may be eligible for a range of scholarships or grants.
The Doctor of Optometry has both Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) and full fee places available. All Australian fee places are eligible for financial assistance, such as FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP.
International students are eligible for full fee paying places.
Fees are measured by EFTSL (Equivalent Full Time Student Load) . An EFTSL is a measure of study load. One EFTSL is equivalent to 100 credit points and represents a standard annual full time load. The total EFTSL of the OD course is 4.00 EFTSL.
Australian students are eligible for financial assistance through HECS-HELP (for Commonwealth Supported places) and FEE-HELP (for Full Fee places). Students may also be eligible for Youth Allowance and Austudy.
FEE-HELP (Australian Full Fee Students)
Full Fee place Australian citizens and students who hold a permanent humanitarian visa who will be resident in Australia for the duration of the course can apply for FEE-HELP. FEE-HELP is a loan scheme that assists eligible students to pay their tuition fees.
FEE-HELP loans are repaid through the tax system once an individuals income is above the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment. Debts accrued under FEE-HELP will be indexed to the consumer price index (CPI) but are otherwise interest fee.
Please note that the FEE-HELP limit available to eligible students does not cover the total cost of the Doctor of Optometry. The Student Financial Aid Office are available to discuss any concerns that students may have about fees.
HECS-HELP (Australian Commonwealth Supported Place Students)
Australian citizens and students who hold a permanent humanitarian visa who will be resident in Australia for the duration of the course, who are in a Commonwealth Supported Place can apply for HECS-HELP. HECS-HELP helps students pay their student contribution for unit(s) of study in which they are enrolled as a CSP student, by deferring payment.
Under the scheme a student can also choose to pay their student contribution at enrolment ('up-front').
