A Message from the Director
I am pleased to present the 2016 Melbourne Dental School (MDS) Continuing Professional Development Program (CPD).
The CPD unit is introducing several new courses during 2016. The first is "Optimizing Success with Composite in Large Posterior Cavities". The aim of this course is to learn techniques and strategies for the restoration of posterior teeth that have lost one or more cusps. This full day course will provide hands-on exercises for replacement of missing cusps on molar teeth as well as providing participants with the chance to use bulk-fill composites in combination with a number of matrix systems with an emphasis on the sectional matrix and how best to use this when a substantial amount of tooth structure has been lost.
In conjunction with the ADAVB the “2106 Pre-Convention Workshop” will be held in June at the Melbourne Dental School facilities. This years’ topics are “How to simplify composite resins restorations - Style Italiano technique” presented by internationally renouned speaker Dr Paulo Monteiro (Portugal) and “Morphological considerations for the selection of instruments and materials for an efficient preparation and obturation of the a root canal system” presented by international guest speaker Prof Benjamin Briseno (Germany).
Clinical practice has changed due to the success of oral health strategies and the increase in life expectancy. Clinicians are faced with complex management choices as aging patients present with an array of issues that are well beyond the full denture complications of yesteryear. Our new course “Management of the Ageing Dentition” is designed to help oral health practitioners address some of these clinical scenarios.
“Vital Bleaching – All you ever wanted to know about tooth whitening” combines lecture material and hands-on exercises to review the aim of treatment, understand the methods for achieving optimal tooth whitening and what results can be actually be achieved. The hands-on component includes making your own bleach splints and experience in the use of in-office bleaching lights utilising latest technology.
For those of you who are looking for more advanced implant training, we are once again holding our “Principles of Surgical Implant Dentistry” modular program which allows participants to bring their own patients to the Melbourne Dental Clinic for implant surgery under the supervision of some of the best implant surgeons in Melbourne.
I must take time to acknowledge our many highly experienced presenters. The wealth of knowledge they bring across all our disciplines as well as their time and effort is greatly appreciated. I encourage participants to take advantage of this knowledge base while attending our programs.
Our 2016 sponsors are acknowledged and thanked for the kind support they bring to the Melbourne Dental School CPD programs.
Thanks are given to our Melbourne Dental School staff who organise the CPD programs throughout the year. A special mention to Sam in the CPD Office as well as Mario, Daniel, Elly and Sue who provide support during the many hands-on laboratory courses. Without their hard work, the CPD programs would not be possible.
I hope you find this years’ program engaging and enjoyable and I look forward to seeing you all at some stage throughout 2016.
A/Professor Roy Judge (Chair) Continuing Professional Development Program - Melbourne Dental School
