A Message from the Director
Welcome to the 2018 Melbourne Dental School, Continuing Professional Development Program.
I am pleased to present to you the annual calendar of events including several new and exciting programs on offer during 2018. From feedback we received during 2017 we are holding a new two day hands-on course on Removable Prosthodontics. This course will simplify removable prosthodontics and will focus on the critical steps for providing a functional, comfortable and aesthetic denture. The presented contents will allow dental practitioners to optimize their skills to include removable prosthodontics and comfortably manage patients with complete and partial edentulism.
The “Hall Technique” is a program for General Practitioners, Oral Health Therapists and Dental Therapists and will cover a gentler approach to caries management in young children using stainless steel crowns. This course has been will provide you with all the information you need to incorporate this clinical technique and build your practice, through the non-invasive treatment of childhood caries in primary molars. You will find that this simple and anxiety reducing technique can increase your income stream whilst retaining families in your practice with less referrals for treatment under general anaesthesia.
During the second half of the year the new two-day program on “Behaviour Management for Successful Practice - Sedation and CPR” will be held at the Melbourne Dental Clinic (MDC) and will cover topics such as how to increase patient acceptance of treatment planning, body dysmorphic disorder in dentistry, psychological evaluation and behaviour management in dental practice as well as practical hands-on CPR and relative analgesia training in the custom fitted surgeries at MDC.
“The Silver Wave” - how to deal with an ageing population that is about to unleash a wave of dental issues will provide you with suggestions and guidance on how best to meet the needs of your ageing patients with a focus on both your patients and your practice needs which are inextricably linked, but each requiring a different approach.
“Master Class in Contemporary Oral Medicine - A Comprehensive Approach to Clinical Practice” is a full day lecture program focussing on the diagnosis, prevention and management of medically-related disorders and conditions affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. This program focusses on oral diseases, orofacial pain, and dental sleep medicine.
We will introduce further programs to the e-cart throughout the year as we have in the past, so please check back with us periodically for any new updates. You can also sign up for monthly email updates and course reminders by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
As always, our most popular programs are available once again for those of you who may have missed out previously.
I must take time once again to acknowledge our many highly experienced presenters. The wealth of knowledge they bring across all our disciplines as well as their time and effort is greatly appreciated. I encourage participants to take advantage of this knowledge base while attending our programs.
Our 2018 sponsors are acknowledged and thanked for the kind support they bring to the Melbourne Dental School CPD programs.
Thanks are given to our Melbourne Dental School staff who organise the CPD programs throughout the year. Without their hard work, the CPD programs would not be possible.
I hope you find this years’ program engaging and enjoyable and I look forward to seeing you throughout 2018.
A/Professor Roy Judge (Chair) Continuing Professional Development Program - Melbourne Dental School
